Tim McGraw Does the Diffie

Joe DiffieJason Aldean’s latest hit, “1994,” name checks Joe Diffie, who had several big hits in the 90s, including “John Deere Green,” “Third Rock From The Sun,” and “Pickup Man.” Not many current artists have personal history with Diffie.  However, Tim McGraw actually shared a manager with Joe 20 years ago.  So Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton asked Tim about Joe Diffie: “One of the greatest singers to ever come out of this town.  Joe was really my first big tour ever, when he had the Honky Tonk Attitude Tour, I was his opening act.  So I got to watch his show every night.  Joe’s first album had a lot of great songs on it, and I tried to copy every lick on it when I made my first album.  Also, years ago, when I first moved to town, in 1990, I made a demo of three songs, and Joe was in the same studio, and I needed a harmony singer, so Joe came over and sang harmony for me.  It’s actually the demo that got me my record deal.  And he wrote a song called “Memory Lane” that was on my first record.”
