Michael Ray Honors Randy Travis

Michael Ray was one of the stars who took part in “Heroes & Friends: A Tribute to Randy Travis.”  Michael told Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton that it was an emotional night:

“It was such an honor to be a part of that. When all that came about, Being able to be there, I said this to Randy, seeing how many generations his music touched, you have Kenny Rogers, Wynonna Judd, Garth Brooks, Mark Chesnutt, all the way up to the new guys, like me and William Michael Morgan. To see his music changed all of our lives, there’s a reason why we’re here, he changed country music in the 80s, the first person to sell 3 million copies of an album, completely turned everything around, to see a town come together and thank him was an unbelievable thing to be a part of. I did a song called ‘He Walked On Water,’ which might be my favorite Randy Travis song, because of my relationship with my grandfather, and a song I sang with him.  It was actually the second anniversary of my grandfather’s funeral that day.  He died February 8th, 2015.  Here I was, playing a sold-out show at Bridgestone Arena, with one of the best voices in country music sitting on the stage, and you’re going to try to sing one of his songs, and then on that day, I felt this surge of energy.  I was on a high all day, and came down afterwards.”
