What a wild end to 2017 for Luke Bryan! His Huntin’ Fishin’ & Lovin’ Every Day Tour played for over a million and a half fans. He was a coach for Team Blake on The Voice. And now he’s been named a judge for the 2018 reboot of American Idol! Luke told Lon he’s already been working on Idol.
“It was a lot of logistics. The main hurdle with Idol was the audition process we’re going through now. I still had shows, so I had to move some shows around. But at the end of the day, the Idol thing is really fun. I’m enjoying it. Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and I are having a blast trying to find the next American Idol. No regrets on my end.”
The year began last January with Crash My Playa in Mexico. Luke invited Little Big Town & Blake Shelton and they all had a great time: “We just sat around and had fun playing music. We were really able to do that down there. We crashed Blake’s stage and we did two hours of covers. We had a good time, what we could remember.”
Luke had concerns about having Blake at Crash My Playa. He told Lon: “When you call Blake Shelton to play your festival, and he’s bringing his girlfriend Gwen Stefani, it can be a lot of stress. I kept asking him if everything was OK, and he finally said, “Our chef made hot dogs the first day. The rest of the week, there was hot dog in our salad. Then we had beanie weenie. But he wasn’t really mad about the 17 courses of hot dogs he had to eat.”
Luke was part of Chris Janson’s video for “Fix A Drink.” He told Lon it was a fun day: “We drank a couple beers, smoked some cigars, and filmed a country music video. His farm is down near where my farm is, so it wasn’t far to go. I was there because it was fun to be there.”.
Luke also gave his side of meeting “the other Luke,” Luke Combs a few months ago: “He’s encroaching on my territory with this name. Is he THE Luke yet? I hope not. What’s so intriguing is he’s such a real guy. When I watched his video, I just laughed out loud, because he’s having fun. He also has a massive voice. I was honored to meet him, and see what’s going on in his world.”
Obviously with so much to talk about, we had enough for two shows. Next week, Luke returns with more stories from American Idol, more about his new album, and his plans for Christmas.
