Morgan Wallen Gets 1st #1

Morgan Wallen achieved a milestone this week, as his duet with Florida Georgia Line became his first #1.  As is our tradition, Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton reached out to congratulate Morgan on the success of his hit “Up Down.”

Congrats on your first #1: “Thanks, it’s pretty cool! I can honestly say I’ve never experienced anything like it. Thinking about all the people you look up to and idolize who’ve been in these same shoes before is probably the craziest thing to think about.

Were you on the road when you got the news? No man, I actually flew home after a show in Tampa, because I was exhausted, went home and went to bed, it was such a close thing going on, I said my prayers, went to bed, woke up the next morning and found out.  I feel like at that point there’s nothing I can do, I worked hard, at that point it’s not in my hands any more.

After it went #1 what was your first conversation with Florida Georgia Line? We just had a group text, and they were saying how proud they were of me, and they’re glad they could be part of it. We hope we can get together and celebrate when we get a chance.  It’s always busy this time of year, it’s hard to get us in the same place at the same time, but we definitely mentioned it, we definitely have a little celebration very soon.

What was the first call you made? To my parents. They were super excited, they supported me my whole life, whatever I wanted to do, never made me feel I was crazy for doing that, I don’t know if I would be here without them, definitely not.

This is your first #1 as an artist, but a few months ago, you were a writer on Jason Aldean’s #1 “You Make It Easy.” What’s the difference getting a #1 as writer and #1 as an artist? That’s a good question, it is different. I grew up a fan of Jason Aldean, and it’s crazy that he even knows my name.  That part is the craziest part of that whole thing.  It’s pretty humbling and awesome.  A lot of people don’t even know I wrote that Jason Aldean song. But as an artist, for me, it’s more credibility for what I’m doing, it’s a completely different ball game, but I’m fine with either one of them.
