This week’s co-host Kip Moore tells Lon Helton he got to spend Christmas back home in Georgia: “I don’t get to see my family much, I left when I was 17, and have been gone ever since. I have five brothers and sisters in South Georgia, and they’re all having kids at the same time. It’s like a madness right now, so it’s brought a lot of joy in the house.”
Now that the holidays are over, Kip is ready to head someplace warm for one of his favorite activities: Surfing. “It’s the closest I can get to that childlike joy, and that’s what I’m always chasing. Just that childlike, 8 year old, nothing matters in the world kind of thing. I think about that. People never get to experience that, and that’s why I will always go back.”
Late last year, Kip Moore released an acoustic album called Room To Spare. He told Lon his fans asked for it: “I’ve wanted to do this for a long time. My fans know all my songs, and they kept asking me for an acoustic record because the songs lend themselves to that kind of thing. So I finally was able to talk the label into letting me do a tide-over record, something to hold the fans until the next project.”
Speaking of that, Lon asked when we might see some new music? “Nobody even knows this Lon, but I’m actually about to go in in about a week or two for the full new record. I’ve been writing a ton. I feel I have the first batch of songs ready, so I’m gonna go in and track.”
Kip told Lon that he’s become friends with Brett Eldredge: “We’ve been friends through the years. I sometimes go to the same gym as he does. He knows I travel and surf all over the world. He asked me about Costa Rica one time. I told him he might not want to do things the way I want to do things. The last time I was in Costa, I found a scorpion by my bed, a big bushmaster snake, and he said, ‘Yeah I’m gonna stick with hotel life.”
Kip also has great stories this week about Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Jordan Davis, Morgan Evans, and Billy Currington.
