A Good Time For Luke Combs

This week’s co-host is the CMA New Artist of the Year Luke Combs. He told Lon, “2018 was an awesome year for me, and 2019 is not goin’ too bad either. When it rains, it pours, some might say.”

In December he announced his engagement to his girlfriend Nicole. Luke told Lon, “We announced our engagement while we were in Hawaii, but we got engaged here.” His fiancé played a part in his current single: “I had just met my now-fiancé, so she was the inspiration for this tune. We weren’t even officially dating yet. This song helped get my foot in the door.”

Will Beautiful Crazy be part of the wedding?” I don’t know, I don’t think we’re that far yet. I would leave it up to her.” Have you set a date? “No we haven’t. It’ll probably be next year, we’re so busy this year with the tour and new music.”

On the subject of weddings, Luke has already had the chance to sing Beautiful Crazy at Brett Young’s wedding: “His wife and my fiancé are good friends. We went out to the Palm Desert and I got up and sang Beautiful Crazy at his wedding. We got started around the same time, so we hang out a lot together.”

During the past year, we’ve followed the friendship of Luke Combs and Luke Bryan. In January, Combs took part in Bryan’s Crash My Playa in Mexico. “That was fun, it was such a cool event, would love to do something like that for our fans. We played the pool party, and it was insane, the whole pool was full of people. It was a little bit raucous, everybody was drinking, and we were very close to the crowd. It was fun, though.”

A few weeks later, Luke was in LA for the 61st annual Grammy Awards: “We walked the carpet right in front of Cardi B. She had this dress that five people had to hold. Then there were ten security people around then. Meanwhile it was me and my fiancé and that was it. I’m glad I went, I didn’t win, which is OK, but it made me appreciate the country awards shows.”

Last fall, Luke bought a house and some land outside of Nashville. Lon asked about his home projects: “We’ve done some improvements, and had some setbacks. We added some gates, but they got messed up in the flood we had recently, so I’ll have to replace them. The gates are still there, but the electronics were submerged under 5 feet of water. But we’re doing a lot of painting and that sort of thing.”

Luke also has great stories this week about Jason Aldean, Cody Johnson, Kane Brown, Morgan Wallen, and Brooks & Dunn.

NEXT WEEK: Chris Stapleton
