It’s been about four years since Chase Rice has co-hosted the Countdown. He told Lon he’s gone through a lot of soul searching and career changes since then. The good news is that for the first time in four years, Chase is back in the Top 5.
Two weeks ago, Chase was in Las Vegas for the ACM Awards. He told Lon: “It was the most special week I’ve ever had. I presented on the awards, I did lots of interviews, and the cool part is I’ve seen it the other way. The last two years, the way that I haven’t had success has made me appreciate it even more. I’m more appreciative of the people, including radio, for helping me have that hit.”
While at the ACMs, Chase took part in a charity event called “Stories, Songs, & Stars.” Chase said, “That was one of the coolest things I’ve done in music. Thomas Rhett & I grew up together in Nashville, and I wrote my first Top 5 with his dad. And both were there that night, and to see their dynamic together is so cool.”
Chase recalled an elk hunting trip he took with Jon Pardi: “We were walking, and I said, ‘This is not the way we went before.’ He stops, turns around, points his gun at me and says, ‘Chase, I told you this is the right way. Now shut up and walk.’ Turns out Jon was right, we got to the right place. He’s the same kind of guy as me, just funnier.”
The day after he recorded the Countdown, Chase was going to a different studio: “We’re going in to record tomorrow. Eyes On You is so big that we’ve got to follow it with something just as big. So we’re gonna move on to something new. We’re gonna put something out in a few months and we’ll find out tomorrow what it’s gonna be.”
The #1 song is by the first for Riley Green, so Lon & Chase gave him a call to congratulate him. Riley said “It’s one of those things that’s a milestone achievement, nobody can ever take it away from me. They can come to my shows and boo me, but I’ll always have a #1 song.”
Chase also has great stories this week about Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, Jake Owen, Michael Ray, Luke Combs, and Florida Georgia Line.
