This week’s co-host Jon Pardi took a short break from the Burning Man tour to talk about the headliner Dierks Bentley: “Dierks puts on a good show. Everyone loves Dierks. This is our third together. He’s a workaholic, but he’s such a cool guy.”
As this show airs, Jon is in Australia. “We’re co-headlining a tour with Brett Eldredge. We’re playing a bunch of theaters and one big festival. I’ve heard nothing but good feedback. They love country music and they like having a good time, so I’m gonna have a good time if they like those two things.”
Jon is one of the artists included on the new Brooks & Dunn “Reboot” album. Jon told Lon he met with Kix & Ronnie, but also met Ronnie’s daughter Haley: “She literally goes, ‘Don’t let my dad tell you he’s a fan. I showed him your music. I loved ‘Missin’ You Crazy.’ I have the first and second album.’ When I heard that, I said ‘You really ARE a fan!'””
Jon has done many shows and several tours with Midland. One show in particular that came up was their New Year’s Eve show in San Antonio: “That was a rowdy night. They drank all our beer. When we got off stage, there was no beer. Then Mark arm-wrestled my dad. I think Mark won, but he cheated, he grabbed the table. It was a big party backstage.”
When Lon & Jon came to Thomas Rhett’s song in the chart, Jon said he has a duet on Thomas’ new album: “Guess what it’s about: drinkin’ beer. It’s called ‘Ain’t Nothin’ Beer Can’t Fix.” He texted me to sing on his record. He had two songs, and I told him we had to do this one. You can’t have enough feel-good songs.”
Lon asked Jon about the progress on his next album: “New album is done, turned it into the label, and it’s all in their hands now. I’ve been working on this new album for two years. The next record is modern day honky tonk. It’s a really fun album. You’ll hear a lot of my influences. It’s just a straight up country album, I feel that’s what my fans want. There’s a duet with Lauren Alaina, and she sings so good, and it’s a great song.”
Jon also has great stories this week about Brett Young, Maren Morris, Chase Rice, George Strait, Runaway June, and Brett Eldredge.
