For example, Thomas usually tours with his family. “It’s like all hands on deck, but that’s the family environment of a tour. He’s up early, when the girls are out, he spends time with them. When they’re not there, he can sleep late.”
When Thomas was Lon’s co-host, he described Russell as someone who always wants to do things during the day of the show. When Russell heard that, he agreed: “That is so true. I wake up, and say, ‘Hey are we working out today?’ He’s been writing a lot on the road too. So I feel like I’m waiting outside his bus, waiting for him to finish, like, ‘Hey, can TR come out and play?'”
Russell told Lon he’s been working on some new music: “On tour with Lady A, we wrote all the time. I wrote some with Charles & Dave. I am so proud and so excited for record two. So we recorded six songs already. Once we get it dialed in, early next year, we’ll have some new music out.”
When Kelsea Ballerini was Lon’s co-host, she said Russell did something called “The Wine Glass Challenge,” where he gets his mouth around an entire wine glass and chugs the wine. Russell explained, “I’m not afraid of self-deprecation. I’ll do anything for a laugh.” When Lon suggested there might be some epic fails, “Yes there are some stains on shirts.”
Lon also spoke with Matt Stell, who achieved his first #1 this week.
Russell also has great stories this week about Garth Brooks, Lee Brice, Dustin Lynch, Ingrid Andress, Keith Urban, and Florida Georgia Line.
