The 53rd annual CMA Awards will take place this Wednesday night, broadcast live on ABC-TV. Carrie Underwood will be joined by special guest co-hosts Reba McEntire & Dolly Parton. Lon spoke with Carrie about this year’s show:
I definitely applaud the CMA for wanting to have this show be a tribute to the women of country, past, present & future. When we talked about doing that, having some special guest hosts seemed like a way to do that. I think we’ll have some incredible moments.
The thing we learned about our 50th was that the people loved seeing artists they haven’t seen for a minute. I think about the people who influenced me, like Patty Loveless and Trisha. People like that who you want to see and hear. It’s gonna be exciting. We want people singing together and lifting each other together.
It’s not just necessarily people singing, but Barbara Mandrell doesn’t sing anymore, but it would be a shame to not have her in the building.
The wardrobe is gonna be epic! So many sequins and rhinestones and hairspray! There should be some kind of statistic during the night.
The thing about Brad is he’s one of my best friends, he’s been nothing but amazingly supportive for all of this, and he loves the ladies of country music, and it will not be the last time Brad & I cut up together.
