Chris Young In New House

Lon’s co-host this week is Chris Young, who just wrapped up the biggest tour of his career, playing to over 400,000 fans in three countries. “There’s so many things that have happened to me that I’m thankful for, that I’m grateful for, it’s just been an incredible year for me.”

Chris recently appeared in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York City: “This is something I did for my mom. Her first memory was watching that parade on TV. I really enjoyed doing it. My mom & dad got to see it. Then we flew home, I made the turkey, and we had Thanksgiving dinner together.”

The turkey that Chris cooked was the first in his new house: “Yes. This was in my new house, this was the big first thanksgiving meal that I’ve done in the new kitchen, then I loaded it up and took it to my parent’s house.  I like to cook.  So for me the process of pre-browning the turkey, I’ve done it a couple different ways.  I did a test turkey on Monday before I flew out, and then did another one when we got back, just in case I didn’t have time.”

You mentioned a new house, so did you build anything special in the kitchen? “The person who had it before had done everything the way I would have done it. So I didn’t have to change anything, That was the awesome part. There wasn’t any major buildout changes, other than what I did to the backyard, my deck, and all the furniture I put in there. It’s got a backyard for my dog, it’s fenced in, it’s right there close to everything, it’s really cool, I’m very excited.”

Chris was part of the annual CMA Country Christmas “I’m pretty unabashedly a huge Christmas fan. Got to make my own Christmas album a few years ago. So any time I get asked to do that show, I’ll be there. I love the show, love being part of it.”

This weekend, Chris appears in CMT Crossroads with Gavin DeGraw: “This is probably one of my favorite things I’ve done on TV. Gavin & I have become good friends over the years. I think it really showed on the broadcast. I think people will be pleasantly surprised with the things we did together. It just came together, from top to bottom it felt awesome.”

Plus, we hear the latest on Porter The Dog. Lon asked how Porter likes his new house: “He’s loving it. He ran in the yard the first day we moved in. ‘This is mine! This is my domain!’ The only thing he has to get used to is the hardwood floors. He scooby-dos pretty hard around the house. The only thing he did that upset me is he ate one of my stairs. He ate the corner of the third stair off.”

What are your plans for Christmas? “My niece is super into Christmas. She’s 7 years old. She’s all about it. I will try to spend as much time as I can with her.”

Chris also has great stories this week about Garth Brooks, Riley Green, Kane Brown, Jimmie Allen, Matt Stell, Dan & Shay, and Old Dominion
