Jon Pardi’s Classic Engagement

Lon’s co-host this week is Jon Pardi. They begin this week’s show talking about the holidays. Jon said, “We celebrated Christmas with my mom & sister in Maui, and then flew to Nashville to celebrate with my dad.”

The big news for Jon is his engagement to Summer Duncan during a show in October: “At the Ryman, planned that out for 5 months. Didn’t tell anybody. I think it represents me and country music. Our first date in Nashville was at the Ryman. Two years later I thought it would be cool to ask her to marry me on stage.”

What did she say about the public engagement? “She was fine, she was excited, she had no idea, but she didn’t want to go on stage. She said, ‘Nobody’s gonna care about me.'”

So will the wedding happen this year? “Yes we are getting married in May. She didn’t want to wait. We’ve been dating for 2-1/2 years. She’s been great. I didn’t tell her parents until a month ahead. I knew they were coming to the Ryman. We have an amazing photo of me on one knee and the Ryman in the background.”

The wedding is in May, so I assume you’ll set some time aside for a honeymoon? “We’re not really worried about a honeymoon. Summer’s awesome, she gets it, she says we have a great time no matter what we do. But definitely in the backside of this year, we’ll have a honeymoon somewhere.”

Jon’s fiancĂ© Summer is also in the video for Heartache Medication: “Summer is the blonde at the jukebox. It was fun to dance with Summer in the video.” Did Summer enjoy being in the video? “She enjoyed being in it, but didn’t enjoy the drama of what she was going to wear. That was the only drama.”

A couple months ago, Jon opened a show for Garth Brooks at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville: “That was awesome. We were very excited. When I looked up, it was pretty full. Garth came to my sound check. It was a show I’ll never forget. That was the biggest crowd I ever played for.”

Thomas Rhett just announced his next single will be “Beer Can’t Fix,” his duet with Jon Pardi. “That song is great. Me & Thomas go way back as songwriters. Now as artists to sing a song with a friend is really cool. I think that song is fitting for two male artists. It’s perfect for a duet, I know fans will love it, I’m excited for it to get some legs and go to the top.”

Jon also has great stories this week about Luke Bryan, Dwight Yoakam, Chase Rice, Ingrid Andress, Dierks Bentley, and Eric Church.

NEXT WEEK: Dustin Lynch
