This week, Thomas Rhett co-hosts the Countdown fresh from the ski slopes in Telluride, Colorado. While there with his family, Thomas told Lon he ran into Dierks Bentley: “The first day we’re out there, we catch a lift to top of the mountain, and Dierks is right in front of me. So he whips out his phone, and he’s filming me. And I go, ‘Dude, I cannot ski in front of you.'”
Thomas is actually in Mexico this weekend, taking part in Luke Bryan’s Crash My Playa: “Luke’s asked me to do this a few times before, and this is the first time our schedules worked out, and I’m excited to get down there and see what it’s all about.”
Later this year, Thomas will kick off his Very Hot Summer Tour, and joining him will be his good friend Russell Dickerson. “I can’t say enough about how much I love that guy. He is not afraid to tell me an area of my life needs work.” So Lon asked what was the last area that Russell thought needed work? “I don’t remember, there’s so many! For sure marital advice. Being married is hard. We’re always talking about how we can be better husbands, writers, and entertainers. Thank God for Russell.”
A few months ago, Kane Brown told Lon he had gone shoe shopping with Thomas before the American Music Awards in Los Angeles. Thomas confirmed the story: “It was funny, we had a bunch of time to kill, and I knew his hotel was down the street, so I said let’s go, and he came and picked me up. But comparing closets would be interesting, between me and Kane Brown.”
Then last month Dan & Shay had a similar story. Thomas told Lon, “I feel like if anybody tours with me, somebody is going to come in here with you and talk about an experience of us going to a sneaker shop.”
Then Lon asked, so what does your closet look like? “Most of it is shoes. Last year my wife made a new rule, because she cannot stand the sneaker thing. She said, if you buy a set of shoes, you have to give a pair away. So that’s what I do. When I buy a new pair of shoes, I give a pair I haven’t worn much to my drummer or someone on my crew.”
Thomas also has great stories this week about Kenny Chesney, Darius Rucker, Brett Young, Dustin Lynch, and Old Dominion.
