For 4th of July weekend, Luke Bryan returns for a second week of new stories as Lon’s co-host. Of course Lon asked about Luke’s July 4th memories. “Mine were just the typical small town 4th of July. We blew stuff up, my dad would cook a Boston butt on the grill, we’d eat watermelon, watch the fireworks, so many memories of just being proud to be an American.”
What about now as the father of three boys? “We love to watch the boys shoot off fireworks. I got my first fireworks warning and maybe citation last year. So any of my neighbors, just so you know, Luke Bryan is out of the fireworks business.”
Luke will host CMA Best of Fest on Monday July 13. He told Lon, “I was glad to be able to put on a show, I think the fans will enjoy it, it’s obviously some things they’ve seen before, but I think it’s gonna be a pretty meaningful show.”
There’s actually one very special new performance in the show, according to Luke: “They asked if I would bring my band in to Nissan Stadium, on the football field, to an empty stadium, and I asked Darius Rucker to join me, so me & Darius got to perform John Mellencamp’s Small Town, we stayed apart, my band was spread out on the field, and it looks great.
Luke said he’d seen Darius around the golf course, and Lon asked about that: “The golf course is near my house, and my son has been practicing there too. Darius & his son has been staying there. His son is 15, and is a marvelous golfer. My 12 year old has been playing with his son. So I’ve seen Darius quite a bit this summer.”
Lon asked what the plan is for American Idol next year: “They know they’re doing the show next year. We feel like they want to keep the judging team intact. We don’t know how we’re going to do the audition process. It could vary state to state. We’ll know soon. I’d love to do the show again, it’s fun for me, so we’ll see.”
Luke also has great stories this week about Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, Scotty McCreery, Lee Brice, Travis Denning, and Jon Pardi.
