Luke Combs Top 30 Two-Fer

Lon’s co-host this week is Luke Combs.  He has an unusual situation with two songs in the Top 30 this week: His own top 5 hit, “Farewell After All,” plus his duet with Jameson Rodgers.

For the duet, Luke says his wife Nicole first introduced him to Jameson’s music.  “I think we were in Lake Tahoe, me & Nicole had just started dating, and she sent me his EP.  I was obsessed with his writing, and I reached out to him, we became friends, took him on tour, and here it is, climbing the charts, so it’s working out.”

Luke told Lon he met Lainey Wilson before he even moved to Nashville: “She was living in a 5th wheel camper behind this music store on the west side of town.  That was 6 or 7 years ago, before I moved to Nashville.  I was playing the Tin Roof, and she was there, and she wanted to write.  We wrote a song called ‘Sheriff You Want To.’  I released it in college. I always thought she was talented, and it’s fun to watch.”

Last month, Luke performed at the finale of American Idol and met with Luke Bryan. “We went out first night, had a nice dinner in LA, did the show the next day, got to hang out, and it’s always a pleasure to hang out with Luke because there’s a lot of laughter.”  Luke also sang with Chayce Beckham: “He ended up winning. I was pumped for him, he’s excited to get his career going, so I’m pulling for him.”

Luke got his dog JoJo with help from Dan & Shay. “We had been wanting a dog, and my wife knows Dan’s wife.  She was doing a charity event for an animal center, and my wife called her and asked ‘What’s the best dog they have?’ They sent us some pictures, and I could tell from the pictures, and we’ve had him for two years.”

A couple of weeks ago, Old Dominion made a beer chugging challenge to Luke. Lon played that audio for Luke, and he said: “That’s a big challenge.  I guess I’ve officially received it.  I’m down whenever, any time any place. I’ll go up against anybody.  I may lose, but I’m still confident.”

Luke also has great stories this week about Jake Owen, Cole Swindell, Luke Bryan, Kane Brown, and Eric Church.

NEXT WEEK: Dierks Bentley
