Lady A Release New Album

Lon Helton & Lady A

This week’s co-hosts are the three members of Lady A.  They just wrapped up their summer tour: “We were able to play live every weekend, it was such a gift.  We had a blast.”

In addition, they have a new album out on Friday 10/22 called “What A Song Can Do.” “After it looked like we were going to be home for a while, we started to write to stay as productive as possible.”

The new album has a couple songs written with Thomas Rhett.  Charles says they’ve become good friends: “We were sitting around at the beach, beers in our hands, watching our kids play, and Thomas says ‘Friends don’t let friends drink alone.’  The best songs write themselves. Then we asked Darius Rucker & Carly Pearce to sing on it.”

The title track for Lady A;s new album was co-written by Ryan Hurd.  Charles said, “His style of writing is in alignment with us.  If he sends a song, we listen to it.  I decided I needed to write with him, and we got together to write What A Song Can Do. It’s a healing message at this time.”

Lady A has a connection to another song in the Top 30: Russell Dickerson‘s “Home Sweet.”  Charles Kelley wrote it with Russell: “It’s been fun watching it go up the charts.  We did a version where it’s Russell featuring Lady A singing on it, so hopefully it’ll get released soon.  We’re proud of this song.”

During the show, Lon received a phone call from Carly Pearce, informing him that he had won the CMANational Personality of the Year award!  This is Lon’s 11th consecutive time as winner.  As always, we are thankful to our loyal affiliates, many of which have carried the show since the 90s.

Lady A also has great stories this week about Darius Rucker, Scotty McCreery, Kelsea Ballerini, and Reba McEntire.
